Last night we had a record low this year of -11.4 degrees. My hand froze to the gate latch this morning! We've had this depth of snow on the bird table several times and I keep scraping it off to feed them. Today they had diced bread soaked in cheap supermarket lard. The starlings love it!
Friday night was the official Big Switch On of the village Christmas Tree lights. Hot chocolate at the Village Hall, everyone walked down to the tree, we sang a carol and then repaired to the church where the heating was on and mulled wine, tea and coffee awaited us, with the usual Mince Pie accompaniment. We had a few more carols in the warmth, then Father Christmas gave a small gift to every child present. It was a wonderful turn-out in spite of the weather. I think people were getting Cabin Fever.
The fence had a foot of snow on top although it melted yesterday when we had a bit of a thaw. After last night's freeze though, there's a dangerous layer of ice on top of all the snow.
An icicle. The perfect murder weapon. All the evidence melts! Not that you'd get away with it now - your fingerprints would stay for days!
It does look pretty though. Wonderful if you didn't have to go out in it.

We have had a bit of a thaw , it's 0.7C at the moment but was freezing overnight. Hope you don't stand under the icicle when it decides to fall off

Our 'bit of a thaw reached a heady -3 today!

The builder who built our shed made the fence to order. I stood there waving my hands saying 'Like this!' and we got there in the end!

That is quite a snow fall! We had our first dusting today, only about a centimeter. North & west of use got a dumping though, 30-50cm. To bad for them :-)
It sounds like you had a lovely evening when the tree lights were turned on. There's many icicles hanging from the guttering on neighbouring houses, you can tell which gutters leak and which don't.
Mum coping fine - she doesn't have to go out in it! It was particularly slippy this morning after a -13 low last night. We have paths with several inches of snow which has thawed and re-frozen several times.
We usually only get a dusting here but not this year!
We seem to get icicles in certain directions, where the sun has started a thaw. If your roof is north facing it's never been warm enough to melt anything. My dustbin is frozen shut because it's in the shade.
